A long trail crossing country borders
The Alpe Adria Trail connects the three regions of Carinthia, Slovenia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia with a total of 38 legs.
The long-distance hiking trail winds from the foot of the highest mountain in Austria, the Großglockner, through the most beautiful Carinthian mountain and lake regions and right near the point where the three countries of Austria, Italy and Slovenia meet – the border triangle – and on to the Adriatic Sea near Trieste.
Hiking for enjoyment is the priority here; that is why the Alpe Adria Trail does not run through the Alpine region, and has only slight changes in elevation whenever possible. The legs are each about 20 km long and take approximately 6 walking hours. They have standardized signposts. Each leg follows a defined route that can be travelled in both directions. The 16th leg of the Alpe Adria Trail is an attractive culinary excursion that ends with a night at the Felsenhof Luxury & Wellness Hotel in the district of Zirkitzen.
The Alpe Adria Trail is comprised of existing paths and connects these to one another to create a high-quality hiking trail. Each leg has multiple landmarks that significantly impact the hiking rhythm. And each leg has at least one "magical spot", a special place that embodies the harmony of the four elements. These spots are "jewels of the landscape" that seize the observer with intensity. They invite you to stop and stay a while so you not only see but feel the landscape around you.
